FELONIES/MISDEMEANORS

Felony offenses in South Carolina are listed in the South Carolina Code of Laws under Section 16-1-90. Misdemeanor offenses are listed in Section 16-1-100.

Felonies carry potentially higher sentences and greater collateral consequences than misdemeanors. Collateral consequences include loss of voting privileges, loss of housing and education benefits and loss of the right to possess or carry a firearm. Misdemeanors may carry collateral consequences; felonies always do. Please see the information of collateral consequences on our website.
